New signing from FC Bayern
Marcel Sabitzer apparently did everything right with his transfer from FC Bayern to Borussia Dortmund. “I couldn’t be happier in Dortmund and I feel like I’m in exactly the right place now. I feel the support of the entire club. “You need that to perform well,” said the 29-year-old at “The Athletic“.
Sabitzer, whose statements were made to the portal shortly before the 4-0 home defeat against his former club from Munich, moved to the black and yellow in the summer for 19 million euros. So far, the Austrian international has appeared eleven times for his new employer, scoring two goals and one assist. At BVB, Sabitzer acts a little more offensively than at the German record champions. “It suits my game well,” said the veteran, who feels “that I’m at 100 percent now.”
In the 2022/23 return series, Sabitzer was active on loan for Manchester United in the Premier League, where he made 18 appearances (three goals, one assist). In mid-May, the “Red Devils” announced that he was ending the season due to a meniscus injury – an early end for Sabitzer in England. The professional suffered the injury after just two weeks and played with pain, as he said. “But at some point I couldn’t continue and had to have an operation.” At the end of June, Man United announced that Sabitzer had no future at Old Trafford and would have to return to Bayern for the time being.

The change of scenery – from Munich to Manchester – had nevertheless brought him forward. “After the difficult time at Bayern, I jumped straight into the deep end,” revealed Sabitzer. “I felt very good on the pitch and regained my confidence. I realized that I still had it, and even though I didn’t have the rhythm that you get when you’re a starter, I showed that I can still do it at this level. That helped me alot. Physically, mentally and football-wise, I’m very happy with how the last ten or eleven months have gone.”
