BVB: Marco Reus before the 1st championship – allegations in untitled years “hurt him”

Reversed signs at Coman

The long wait should finally be over. For the first time in his eventful career with many ups and downs – also due to injury – Marco Reus wants to win the longed-for championship title with Borussia Dortmund. For the captain, the triumph as a native of Dortmund would be something very special. “The whole club, the whole city would be very happy with Marco Reus if we won this title at the weekend,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl. Before the last game of the season against FSV Mainz 05 this Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky), BVB is two points ahead of FC Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

Reus wrote a lot of stories at BVB and achieved great things for many years. “What he was accused of again and again is that he didn’t become German champion,” emphasized Kehl: “And he personally always felt sorry for that, it also hurt him. If he could pull it off, it would be something that would give him great satisfaction. I experience him as very focused.”

The now 33-year-old Reus returned to his homeland from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2012, directly after BVB’s last championship title to date. In 2017 and 2021, the offensive player won the DFB Cup with the Revierklub. He has a total of 386 games (161 goals, 121 assists) in black and yellow, which puts him in seventh place in the club’s record player ranking. Most recently, he was only used as a substitute, but extended his contract by another year until 2024.

FC Bayern’s Coman runners-up for the first time in his professional career?

FC Bayern’s winger Kingsley Coman could be without a championship for the first time in his professional career. The 26-year-old has been national champion with his club every year since the 2012/13 season. He started out with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, followed by the Serie A title with Juventus Turin in 2014/15 before triumphing with Munich in the Bundesliga every year since 2016.
