BVB: Karim Adeyemi with focus on U21 – criticism exaggerated

BVB is in poor form

U21 returnee Karim Adeyemi wants to gain confidence for further tasks from the DFB juniors. “My focus is on the U21s. I’m trying to offer myself here and play a good game and then go back to my club to offer myself there,” said the 21-year-old BVB professional on Tuesday in a media round in Frankfurt/Main. “Of course the goal is to get back into the senior national team and show what you can do.”

The Dortmund player is back in the youth national team for the first time since winning the U21 European Championship in 2021. Since then he has appeared four times for the DFB team. Recently he was unable to convince at the club. “I don’t know of any reasons right now. There are a few phases in life where things just don’t work out. That’s how it is for me right now. You get out of every phase, and I do my best to do that,” said the attacker. “The U21 is very good for me because I can give it my all in every training session and hopefully play a good game.”

Adeyemi also pointed out that criticism should not be excessive. “If criticism is expressed against me personally, that is not a problem. When it goes against family, friends or my girlfriend, it goes too far for me too. These are the last people to blame for this,” said the 21-year-old. “I’m the one who’s on the pitch and isn’t playing so well at the moment. It’s no one else’s fault.” In seven games of the season so far – three of them from the start, but only one over 90 minutes – the fast offensive player has not been involved in a goal.

Adeyemi also reported in the press session about contact with the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann. “He talked to me and said it would be good for me to come here. I’m here and I’m happy about it. I can go into it confidently and am absolutely ready for the game,” said the BVB professional. The U21s will face Bulgaria next Friday (6:15 p.m./ProSieben MAXX) in Sofia. The later scheduled game in Israel was canceled after the attack by the Islamist Hamas.
