Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund has parted ways with its chief scout Markus Pilawa with immediate effect. The reason: The talent scout is about to move to Bayern. BVB has now justified the decision.
The move from BVB chief scout Markus Pilawa to record champions FC Bayern Munich is not yet a done deal. Addressed by “Sky”, managing director Carsten Cramer gave some background information.
“It just happens that there are changes. I believe that the measure we have taken, if someone changes to a direct competitor, then to stop working together at short notice is a reasonable, appropriate and in no way excessive measure,” said Cramer conversation with the TV station out.
It no longer made sense to continue working together “in this intensive phase” if a change to the competitor was already imminent, was the reason for the immediate separation.
BVB sees separation “relatively unemotional”
Pilawa has worked for the Black and Yellows since 2012 and has played a key role in BVB’s success in the transfer market in recent years. The first rumors were already circulating in January that the 44-year-old wanted to look for a new challenge and could switch to Hertha BSC. In May it was said that Pilawa could replace sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz at VfL Bochum.
According to media reports, the scout will resume his work at FC Bayern Munich on September 1st.
Cramer sees no bad blood in the matter: “We worked well together with Markus. We wish him all the best for the future and see it relatively unemotionally.”
BVB had previously hired an employee from FC Bayern in Laurent Busser. Carsten Cramer confirmed that Pilawa’s move to the competition from Munich had nothing to do with that.
