Milestone for BVB professional
This article first appeared on October 19th and was updated on Brandt’s 300th deployment.
Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt reached a milestone against Werder Bremen on Friday evening at Signal-Iduna-Park. The national player played his 300th Bundesliga game. Only two professionals were younger when they reached this mark.
Brandt made his debut for Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the top German league on February 15, 2014 at the age of 17 and quickly established himself as a regular. Also because the right-footer was spared from major injuries, he always made at least 25 appearances for the “Werkself” and BVB in the following seasons. Since 2016/17 there have been at least 30 games each. Brandt reached the 300 mark at the age of 27 years, five months and 17 days, becoming the 249th professional in Bundesliga history. Only Eike Immel (27 years, 3 months, 24 days) and Karl-Heinz Körbel (27 years, 3 months, 27 days) were younger when they reached the mark.

Brandt is one of the strongest and most consistent players at BVB this year and, together with Nico Schlotterbeck (23), is the most valuable Dortmund player. At the press conference before the game, coach Edin Terzic had words of praise for the celebratory player: “Julian is a child of the Bundesliga. I enjoy working with him every day. He has changed his game in the last few years, that was the key to his success.” Against Bremen, the fifth league win in a row should keep the pressure on the competition high, and a three-pointer will mean a temporary jump to the top of the table.
