BVB was interested
Boubacar Kamara will leave Olympique Marseille on a free transfer this summer. The 22-year-old midfielder confirmed to the French TV station “Telefoot”: “I have made my decision and it is not to renew and to leave OM at the end of this season. I think this is the best decision for my future career.”
Kamara joined the Ligue 1 club’s youth department in 2005 aged five and made his senior debut in 2017 aged 17. “I’m proud to have played 170 games for OM. Nobody would have believed it, but I messed up the hierarchy and asserted myself in this team.”

In 170 games, Kamara scored four goals and prepared six goals, but his strengths lie mainly in defence. He describes a sticking point in his career with the appointment of Jorge Sampaoli as Marseille coach in March 2021: “When Sampaoli came, he said to me: ‘You move too much on the field. You have to be the player who leads the team, you have to take care of winning the ball, you are the boss in midfield.’ He taught me the position of midfielder.”
BVB interested: Kamara leaves OM for a “new challenge”
After 17 years at the club, the time at OM ends in the summer because Kamara has arrived at a point in his career “where I want to develop further, want to discover a new challenge and a new league. I’ve decided on my future club and you’ll find out soon,” he said. In the past he had been repeatedly associated with Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid had tried an offer in winter. With a market value of 25 million euros, Kamara is one of the most valuable professionals who can be had for free in the summer.
