Not only the professionals of Borussia Dortmund are in a sporting crisis, the season does not run as planned for the U23 of the BVB. The black and yellow substructure is in the 15th league in the 15th league after 29 game days and is only one point ahead of the second team of VfB Stuttgart, which occupies the first relegation rank. In the last five games, only SV Sandhausen and SpVgg Unterhaching won fewer points than the BVB talent.
A descent would hit Borussia Dortmund hard, as sports director Sebastian Kehl explains to the “Ruhr Nachrichten”: “If we hire young players for our NLZ, it is of course also an argument that our U23 plays in the 3. League and thus offers an additional perspective in the adult area. This is certainly a competitive advantage over our competitors.” This would no longer be given if you descend. “A descent would be a disaster and for me personally as a sporting director,” adds Ingo Preuss to the newspaper.
“The security of being able to say that a player is suitable for the professionals is simply higher in the 3. League than in the Regionalliga West,” said Prussia. However, the 2nd team will only meet this task this season, because among the eleven most frequently used BVB players there are only three who are younger than 21 years. In addition, none of the eleven actors were trained in their own youth department. At the VfB’s second representation, seven of the eleven players with the most minutes under 21 and five of them come from their own U19.
Permeability to the professionals low – Collins and Rothe start after changing
“There is nothing better than playing men’s football at this age. This is also a completely different game from all athletics. You have to stretch, you develop so much, you build a completely different resilience and hardness. But the talents would have to be used for this, which is currently working less well. The only own plants that collected more than 700 minutes in the current season are Danylo Krevsun (19), Kjell Wätjen (19) and Silas Ostrzinski (21).
The low playing time for your own plants in the 3rd league is also reflected in the permeability to the Bundesliga team. Since the third division promotion in 2021, no talent has been recommended for operations in the second team for higher tasks at BVB. Eigen -plants such as Tom Rothe, Namdi Collins or Immanuel Pherai made the leap into the professional area with the help of borrowing or a firm change. This season, Almugera Kabar only had a self -trained talent for the professionals for more than 100 minutes.
In the last games of the season, the team of coach Jan Zimmermann has the reins themselves in their hands due to the duels against the second representatives from Stuttgart and Hanover and Waldhof Mannheim. “I don’t want to talk about the regional league. I want us to go full throttle in the end of the season and do everything we can to stay in the 3rd league,” says Preuss. In the past three years, this has mostly succeeded. The first season ended in ninth place, followed by 13th and eleven.
