BVB wanted to win five of the remaining five league games to break Bayern’s dominance once and for all. But after the draw in Bochum (1:1), Munich can now pass again. Defender Mats Hummels spoke up a day after the frustrating draw, his buddy and opponent Thomas Müller reacted.
Bayern veteran Thomas Müller – and over 50,000 other Instagram users – liked what BVB professional Mats Hummels wrote a day after missing the win at VfL Bochum. Müller and Hummels know each other from a long time together at FC Bayern and in the German national team, and the two also meet regularly off the field.
What Müller particularly liked was the good portion of self-criticism that the Dortmunder expressed. Because: BVB could have taken the three points despite the questionable referee decisions.
“There were definitely opportunities to win the game regardless of the penalty not being given. I don’t want to make this situation any higher, after all, the penalty should have been converted first,” Hummels wrote.
Hummels complains about the lack of effectiveness – VAR decision “a mystery”
A look at the statistics also revealed that BVB had enough chances to win the game against the relegation candidates. Dortmund fired a total of 21 shots, with Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi and Jude Bellingham each having four shots on target. In addition, the Terzic team earned eleven corner kicks – not a single one was converted into a countable goal.
So “the accuracy in the last third and the effectiveness in front of the goal” were missing, analyzed Hummels. However, BVB “entirely accepted” the “fight” in the crowded and noisy Bochum stadium, he emphasized.
Nevertheless, the Dortmund vice-captain could not avoid going into the key scene and the associated question of why the video referee had not intervened in the alleged foul game on Adeyemi. “It is a mystery to me why there are a number of questionable penalties this season and why the VAR does not intervene in one of the clearest situations in recent years,” said the 34-year-old.
Hummels had a decent performance in Bochum (sport.de grade 3.0) shown. His header in the closing stages was disallowed for offside.
