In recent days, Karim Adeyemi has come into focus – but away from sport. There is a criminal warrant against him. How does BVB react?

Now the punishment for Karim Adeyemi has been determined: As the “Bild” newspaper and the “Kicker” report unanimously, Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken and sports director Sebastian Kehl had a conversation with the national player on Wednesday. Ricken is said to have described the conversation as “detailed and clear about his behavior”.

The punishment: Adeyemi is supposed to visit the Dortmund Nordstadtliga and complete training sessions there with the children – as so-called social hours. This is a social project that is closely linked to the BVB “Leuchte auf” foundation. Ricken had discussed this with DFB sports director Rudi Völler.

In a statement available to “Kicker”, Ricken is also quoted as saying: “Of course we took the matter very seriously. He deeply regrets his mistake.” The player assured that he didn’t want to do anything like that anymore. Therefore, Ricken said: “We trust him to stick to it.”

As the “Bild” newspaper had previously reported, the Borussia Dortmund offensive player is said to have received a penalty notice for illegal possession of weapons a few weeks ago. WDR confirmed the information and the problems with the judiciary. The Hagen public prosecutor confirmed to both media outlets that a criminal order had been issued against Adeyemi on charges of possessing prohibited items under the Weapons Act. Apparently it was a brass knuckles and a Taser.

The result: The 23-year-old has to pay a high fine. He was sentenced by the Wetter (Ruhr) district court to 60 daily rates of 7,500 euros each. Adeyemi’s offense cost him a total of 450,000 euros. According to information from “Kicker”, there will be no further fines from BVB.

The player himself commented on this on Instagram on Wednesday. He wrote in his story: “It’s not easy for me to talk about it: At the beginning of 2024, out of carelessness and without really thinking about what I was doing, I ordered a so-called ‘mystery box’ on the Internet. It also contained items that are not permitted under weapons law.”

The offensive player explained: “Many months later, the package was delivered and by chance ended up unopened at the police station. Nevertheless, it was a huge mistake. One that I am very sorry for, cost me a lot and that I deeply regret.”
