BVB: Hamann takes Can to task

Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund started the new season with two mixed performances. Former national player Dietmar Hamann now took on the new BVB captain Emre Can, who had shown himself to be quite fed up after the game.

After a poor performance in the home game against 1. FC Köln, when at least a happy 1-0 victory remained, BVB wanted to show a different face on the 2nd matchday. But even at VfL Bochum (1:1) Dortmund didn’t get in step, especially in the first round the team of head coach Edin Terzic was inferior to the opponent.

“It wasn’t a good game from us. That’s not our claim,” midfielder Emre Can rumbled afterwards on “Sky”: “We want to play better football, dominate and win here. Maybe Bochum were just more greedy, more gripping. I can do it Don’t explain it to me either. We’re not playing through our game, we’re just playing along with Bochum’s game.”

Emre Can himself, who followed Marco Reus as captain at BVB, also lacked the necessary stability. As against Cologne, the German national player sometimes slowed down the pace, repeatedly throwing in bad passes. In the individual review by sport.de, he scored 5.0 as one of BVB’s worst players.

The 29-year-old knows: “The first two games weren’t good, but we still have four points. We have to take them with us and try to win our home game against Heidenheim next week. There’s still a lot missing, we have to and will we work.”

BVB newcomers “a little mystery”

“Sky” expert Dietmar Hamann meanwhile made the leading player responsible for Dortmund seeing things going better in the next game: “He’s the captain, he has to go ahead now. He analyzed it wonderfully: If you don’t win the duels, you will you be second winner.”

The season’s performance so far is “far too little”. Hamann was also surprised at the appearances of newcomers Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha, who are supposed to replace Jude Bellingham, who has moved to Real Madrid.

“With Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha they have brought in physical and strong players. We know that they can play football. At the moment the performance is therefore a bit of a mystery,” said the ex-professional.
