Borussia Dortmund is handing over its US professional Gio Reyna to Nottingham Forest immediately before the transfer window closes. BVB announced the loan until the end of the season in the Premier League on Wednesday evening. The Westphalians also extended the contract with Reyna by one year until the summer of 2026.
“We are pleased that we were able to extend Gio’s contract early for another year. He is a player who has enormous abilities and in whom we still see a lot of potential,” said BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl: “Gio is in “We have been approached over the last few days with the wish to play for Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.”
Reyna (21) has played virtually no role for BVB coach Edin Terzic this season; none of his eleven league appearances lasted more than 45 minutes. Reyna neither scored nor prepared a goal.
“Gio is not entirely satisfied with his playing times, but we are firmly convinced of the abilities that Gio has,” said Terzic on Wednesday. A loan therefore makes sense, although BVB is currently suffering from some personnel losses.
BVB also recently loaned Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, a player with a very similar profile. Reyna’s chances of playing were further reduced.
