When Schulz & Guerreiro leave
Borussia Dortmund is no longer planning Nico Schulz (29), Raphaël Guerreiro (28) is considered a candidate for sale due to his contract expiring in 2023 and Tom Rothe (17) is not yet ready for a regular place: the runner-up is therefore trending strongly in the same direction that the left-back position will be filled. Ramy Bensebaini (27) from Borussia Mönchengladbach is the most likely option, but also an expensive one. According to reports, Ian Maatsen from Chelsea is also in focus.

The 20-year-old is on loan at Coventry City this season, where he has made 42 appearances (three goals/one assist) in all competitions. After initially Chelsea blogger Simon Phillips of BVB’s interest in the Dutchman and also mentioned Feyenoord Rotterdam, now also took the “picture“ the rumor started. Another departure, Maatsen has already been awarded twice, is also a possibility because Thomas Tuchel does not yet trust him to play a major role in the Premier League team. Obviously Dortmund is different. From the perspective of the Londoners, a loan would also be preferred in this case.
That could be a typical creative BVB transfer. Few are on the screen and we offer them the opportunity to show themselves at the highest level. The only thing I don’t like about the loan. But of course I can’t say whether there’s anything to it and whether the player really brings enough quality with it. So far, however, transfers from the island have had a very high hit rate. Maybe someone can say more about him besides the usual YT vide…
It is unclear whether Maatsen (Chelsea contract until 2024) is an alternative should Bensebaini not come, or whether both could be committed. According to “Sport1”, the Algerian also has inquiries from Spain and Italy, which is why a change to the black and yellow is not as certain as previously thought. Should Schulz and Guerreiro go, two new players would be needed for the left side, depending on whether Rothe will be permanently integrated with the pros or should gain match practice in the 3rd division.
