BVB flop Balerdi back in the Bundesliga? Eintracht Frankfurt shows interest

The Argentinian Leonardo Balerdi once flopped at BVB, only in France at Olympique Marseille did the central defender flourish. Now rumors are circulating that the 24-year-old will return to the Bundesliga.

In January 2019, Borussia Dortmund transferred more than 15 million euros to Boca Juniors to release Leonardo Balerdi from his contract. This money was not particularly well spent: the defender was only used in eight competitive games for BVB and finally fled to Marseille in 2020.

Since then, Balerdi has developed positively at the Ligue 1 giants. Although he often had a difficult time with the fans, coach Igor Tudor trusted in his qualities. In the ending 2022/2023 season, the two-time national player made 42 appearances in three competitions.

With his performances, the defensive specialist has obviously attracted the attention of a number of other clubs. As the French portal “Teamfootball” reports, in addition to Ajax Amsterdam and Real Sociedad San Sebastian, Eintracht Frankfurt is also interested in Balerdi.

The Hessians, who were able to experience twice in the group phase of the Champions League how stable the former Dortmund flop has become, are said to have already started talks with OM and the players.

BVB flop Balerdi for Eintracht Frankfurt probably too expensive

Balerdi’s working paper could be problematic: the coveted youngster is tied to Marseille until June 30, 2026, according to reports, at least 15 million euros would have to be offered to free him.

Since Eintracht Frankfurt is still worried about participating in international business again, a transfer of the defender Stand is now rather unlikely. Even in the event of a cup win and the associated qualification for the Europa League, Balerdi could still be too expensive.
