BVB: Filling jug clause? Werder becomes clear

When Borussia Dortmund plays against Werder Bremen on matchday 8 of the Bundesliga next Friday evening (8:30 p.m.), then BVB striker Niclas Füllkrug will (probably also) face his former club. According to the SVW, the national player, who is currently on an international trip through the USA with the DFB team, has no possible non-playing clause.

Good news for BVB: Werder Bremen deliberately refrained from including a clause in the purchase contract with the black-and-yellow for striker Niclas Füllkrug, who moved to Borussia Dortmund in the summer, which would have prohibited him from playing in a direct duel with the green-white standing on the grass.

Not so long ago, the people of Bremen had their own (less good) experiences with this. In the second half of the 2020/21 season, Davie Selke, who was loaned from Hertha BSC in the winter, was not allowed to play in the SVW jersey against the Berliners. In the end, Werder was relegated. Although this example has nothing directly to do with the fate of BVB, the Bremen team does not want to influence the competition in the Bundesliga.

There was no corresponding clause when selling filling jugs, as managing director Tarek Brauer emphasized in an interview with the “Deichstube” portal. “We didn’t do that and we don’t do anything like that,” Brauer made clear.

BVB: Werder didn’t want a “back door” with Füllkrug

The reason is obvious to the SVW boss, who is responsible for organization and personnel. “You meet on the pitch for a fair competition, both clubs have the team they deserve, and then we’ll see what comes of it,” said the 45-year-old.

“I think it’s just an unfortunate rule to open a back door and say that a player who has been bought off isn’t allowed to play against us,” added Brauer.

Whether Füllkrug’s balance sheet against It is not known who was the decisive factor for this decision. However, this should give the people of Bremen courage. In three games (with Hannover 96 in 17/18 and 18/19) there was nothing to gain for Füllkrug personally, which means: no goal or assist was recorded. Füllkrug’s team won one game, one ended in a draw, and the attacker lost one against his youth club.

In the BVB jersey, however, the attacker’s ambitions are likely to look different. Anything other than a success against Bremen is likely to cause disappointment for the Black and Yellows and thus also for Füllkrug.
