BVB celebrates after a wild final phase in Mannheim

Waldhof Mannheim missed the leap to a promotion place at the start of the 3rd football league. The Badeners conceded their second and home defeat against Borussia Dortmund after a slump in the final phase despite an early lead with 1: 3 (1: 0) and thus remain in fifth place.

Waldhof’s deficit on the relegation place and also the first promotion rank is two points. At the top, 1. FC Magdeburg has an eleven-point lead over pursuers 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Eintracht Braunschweig, who are tied on points.

Marc Schnatterer gave the home side the lead after nine minutes. But in the final spurt, Ole Pohlmann (74′), Immanuel Pherai (90′) and Tobias Raschl (90’+4′) turned the match in favor of the Westphalians, whose goalkeeper Stefan Drljaca saved a penalty kick from Dominik Martinovic shortly after his team equalised (79th).

The highlight of the game was Pherai’s goal, which sent the ball past Waldhof keeper Timo Königsmann from more than 40 meters into the goal.

The Dortmund reserve improved one point behind Mannheim to seventh in the table, but would not be eligible for promotion at the end of the season.
