BVB boys celebrate dream start against PSG

Perfect start for the BVB boys: On the first matchday of the new Youth League season, the Dortmund youngsters celebrated a narrow 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain. Man of the day was goalscorer Julian Rijkhoff.

The BVB youngsters initially found it difficult to get into the game in Paris and had the necessary amount of luck on their side in one or two scenes.

After around 20 minutes, coach Mike Tullberg’s team woke up and played happily.

After half an hour, striker Julian Rijkhoff rewarded his team’s courageous performance with a 1-0 win. After an assist from William Campbell, the 18-year-old Dutchman sank the ball into the hosts’ box with a powerful shot from around 20 meters.

In the second half, the Parisians became a little more active and had significantly more of the game after the restart. Dortmund rarely scored dangerously, but they kept their backs shut. So after 90 minutes we had a somewhat fortunate, but not completely undeserved, opening victory.

Shortly before the final whistle, the Parisian Serif Nhaga saw the red card (90th + 5).

BVB vs. Milan groundbreaking

In the parallel game in Group F, AC Milan easily beat Newcastle United 4-0. Dortmund’s next opponent is the Rossoneri on October 4th. With a win in the second of three group games, the Black and Yellows could already take a giant step towards the next round. The first in the group qualifies directly, the second in the group has to take the detour via the playoffs.

In the last two seasons, the BVB juniors reached the quarter-finals in the Youth League. In 2021/22 they were eliminated after a very narrow 0-1 defeat against Atlético Madrid, and a year later the team failed on penalties against Hadjuk Split.

RB Leipzig’s offspring also won their opening game. The Saxons won 3-1 against the Young Boys from Bern on the first matchday of Group G.
