BVB boss Watzke against playoffs: “Ultima Ratio”

Dortmund (dpa) – Hans-Joachim Watzke sees no reason to promote the introduction of playoffs in the Bundesliga, despite the great dominance of the series champion FC Bayern Munich.

“In my view, that would be an ultima ratio. If Bayern were still champions in the next five years, we could perhaps think about such scenarios. But I don’t think the time is right now,” said the managing director of the championship runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

The Dortmund club boss referred to the comparatively high fluctuation in the Bundesliga when it comes to the allocation of European places: “With Eintracht Frankfurt, the seventh German club has now managed to qualify for the Champions League in a period of three years. I think that’s remarkable .”

Watzke thinks the hype surrounding the English Premier League is exaggerated: “They haven’t won a single competition this year. The Champions League went to Spain, the Europa League to Germany and the Conference League to Italy.”
