1.5-year Eintracht loan
U21 national player Ansgar Knauff will be given a new chance at Borussia Dortmund next year after his one and a half year loan to Eintracht Frankfurt. “The clear plan is that he returns to us in the summer,” confirmed BVB coach Edin Terzic (quoted via “Ruhr news’) on Friday at the press conference before the two top Bundesliga teams meet on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. In Frankfurt, however, the hope of staying permanently is not yet given up.
Update: The “picture“-Zeitung quoted SGE Sport Board Member Markus Krösche in the evening, who is counting on Knauff’s long-term commitment in the Main metropolis. He said: “We want to keep Ansgar. We have already signaled that to him. He feels very comfortable with us, has developed here and will continue to develop.”
Terzic helped the 20-year-old winger make his Bundesliga debut in March 2021. However, after Knauff was only allowed to collect 142 minutes of play under successor Marco Rose in the first half of the 2021/22 season, the loan to Frankfurt was decided. “I’ve known him for a long time. He had the first starting XI appearances when I stood at the line for the first time. He showed great action and started both games against Manchester City. He didn’t get the minutes, so he was loaned out,” Terzic continued.
Moukoko, Knauff & Co.: These players were in the BVB youth team
When Rose became BVB coach, the 39-year-old moved to the position of technical director – he has kept in touch with Knauff ever since: “I visited him frequently during my time as technical director. We still have good contact today. We’ll take care of the rest in the summer.”
BVB loan Knauff developed strongly at Eintracht Frankfurt – contract until 2024
Knauff has developed splendidly at Eintracht in the past ten months, played a major role in winning the title in the Europa League in particular and increased his market value to 10 million euros. Due to injury, the native of Göttingen, who has been in the BVB youth teams since 2016, has been out since mid-October. Before that, he was used by SBU coach Oliver Glasner in almost all outside positions, and was particularly convincing as a rail player in the system with a three-man defense.
The switch back to the tried-and-tested three-man chain is of direct benefit to Knauff, at least the games against Marseille and Stuttgart were finally slightly upswing games again, but now they are no longer on the right, but on the left in Kostic’s former position. …
Knauff’s contract with BVB only runs for twelve months after his return – should he not want to extend it, next summer would be the last chance to speculate on a reasonably high transfer fee. In the TM rumor mill, the flexible attacker has been associated with Newcastle United, among others, in the past.
