In recent games, the German national soccer team has certainly not covered itself in glory. Two legends from BVB and FC Schalke 04 are therefore demanding changes.
2: 3 against Belgium, 3: 3 against the Ukraine – the DFB team has not found their way back after the Flop World Cup in Qatar. Criticism of the national coach also grew recently.
“Hansi Flick is definitely the right one. He is meticulous and hard-working, thinks a lot,” defended the 1990 world champion Jürgen Kohler the national team coach in a guest article for the “kicker”.
According to the 57-year-old, the “problems” within the team have existed for much longer. “There are recurring mistakes on the defensive, tactically and individually,” Kohler remarked thoughtfully.
He is particularly concerned about the recent flood of goals: “For decades we were the country with the best defenders in the world, so something must have gone wrong. Defending is not trained enough.”
Kohler does not understand why the DFB does not get any outside help. “There are excellent specialists in Germany who have won many titles themselves. They could work in detail with the players on the pitch. Unfortunately, these resources are not used,” complained the ex-professional.
Thon warns: “… otherwise it will be a problem for Hansi Flick”
Meanwhile, his former teammate Olaf Thon, also a World Cup hero from 1990 and a living legend at FC Schalke 04, is defending Flick.
“Of course, appearance and results have to be right in general, otherwise it will become a problem for Hansi Flick. I still don’t think the discussion about him is entirely fair. One must not forget that the DFB selection is now lacking world-class players and the national coach is forced to to rely on a large number of talents or fresh national players,” interjected the native of Gelsenkirchen.
