BVB and City announce Haaland change

The ink is almost dry: Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have agreed in principle to transfer Erling Haaland. The two clubs announced on Tuesday afternoon that only contractual details had to be agreed. According to reports, the Bundesliga club conceded significantly less transfer fee for its goalgetter than expected.

BVB had already enabled the striker to prepare for his farewell on Monday. After completing the medical check-up at the Erasmus Hospital in Brussels in the presence of the Man City team doctor, he returned to Dortmund.

With reference to “sources from Germany”, the usually well-informed British sports journalist David Ornstein had previously reported that Haaland’s move had been decided since last week. The English champions informed the Westphalians that they would draw on the contractually agreed exit clause.

According to information from “The Athletic”, this should be lower than previously thought: In the last few weeks there has always been talk of 75 million euros, but according to the magazine it only amounts to 60 million euros.

Haaland one of the best-paid footballers ever after BVB farewell

The Norwegian has now signed a five-year contract in north-west England and has become the new top earner.

Haaland’s contract with BVB was actually dated until the end of June 2024. Due to the agreed exit clause, the 21-year-old can now change in the summer of 2022.

Numerous European clubs queued up because of his outstanding quota of 85 goals and 23 assists in 88 competitive games for BVB.

In the end, it was Manchester City that got the nod – the club his father Alf Inge once played for between 2000 and 2003.

On Saturday (3:30 p.m.), Erling Haaland can say goodbye to the BVB fans in front of a home crowd in the last Bundesliga game of the season against Hertha BSC.
