15 hits ahead of Zorc
Alfred “Adi” Preißler played for Borussia Dortmund from 1945 to 1950 and from 1952 to the end of his career in 1959. During this time, the ex-striker, who died in 2003, coined the cult saying: “All theory is gray in life – but what matters is on the pitch.” Preißler was often decisive for BVB during his playing days – he scored 170 in 270 games Goals for the black and yellow, across competitive games as many as before and since then no other Dortmund footballer. At Transfermarkt, all of Preißler’s games with line-ups and goals are now entered and can be viewed in the database.
In 1949 and 1950 Preißler was BVB’s top scorer in the Oberliga West, in 1956 and 1957 the attacker, who was born in Duisburg, brought the championship to Revier as captain. Preißler was only unfaithful to his Borussia between 1950 and 1952, when he switched to Preußen Münster as a leaseholder for 10,000 marks in hand money and a gas station. He scored his first Oberliga goal for Dortmund on September 14, 1947 in a 3-0 win over Sportfreunde Katernberg. In the DFB Cup he was successful for the first and only time on August 17, 1952 in the 3:4 defeat against Concordia Hamburg. Preißler also scored for Dortmund in the National Cup (8 times in 10 games), for the first time in the 4-3 win over Spora Luxemburg on August 1, 1956.
Reus soon in 2nd place? BVB’s record scorers
In the all-time ranking of BVB record shooters, Preißler leads in front of outgoing sports director Michael Zorc (159) and Manfred Burgsmüller (158). Today’s captain Marco Reus is hot on their heels with 153 goals across all competitions and should overtake them next season at the latest. In the Bundesliga there are a few more goals that Reus is behind Burgsmüller: he scored 108, Burgsmüller 135.
