A school was to be built on Glockenturmstrasse in Berlin-Westend. The land belongs to Saudi Arabia. A comment from BZ editor Oliver Ohmann.
The shell of the “König Fahd Academy” was completed by 2016. But nothing has happened in Westend since then.
The case reminds me of Teufelsberg. Here, however, the district office reacted differently.
The private owners of the Teufelsberg had their building permit withdrawn for not building. When the investors got their money back and applied for it again, the district office turned it down.
Apparently, the Saudis are not so harshly judged. Do you fear diplomatic complications?
In both cases, it is incomprehensible that a valuable piece of land remains unused. My proposed solution: The district buys the property back from the sheikhs to make room for a school and day-care center.
