Due to the suspension of Pantelis Hatzidiakos, Sam Beukema was in the starting lineup against Go Ahead Eagles. And precisely against his old club from Deventer, the AZ defender scored twice. “I had mixed feelings, because this is not against just any club.”
Beukema made the move from the Eagles from Deventer to Alkmaar last summer. At AZ, the central defender had to make do with a place on the bench in the beginning and he sporadically came in. Now more than half a year later, Beukema is in six basic places in all competitions and is increasingly featured in the plans of trainer Pascal Jansen.

With Pantelis Hatzidiakos and Bruno Martins Indi, Beukema has two experienced competitors. Yet he creeps closer and closer to a permanent place in the center of the defence. His excellent two-goal game against Go Ahead Eagles only helps with that.

Thanks to the good game and Beukema’s goals, AZ has been unbeaten for sixteen matches in a row. The Alkmaarders are now in fourth place. Next Saturday at 9 p.m. AZ will take on Heracles Almelo in-house.
