Jan Slagter states that Eva Jinek bends too much to the wishes of the channel management of RTL 4. According to the boss of Omroep MAX, many topics in her talk show are ‘must-haves’.
Many current programs on television also act as advertising pillars for the channel on which they are broadcast. Think, for example, of Shownieuws that for weeks tried to warm the viewer to Million Dollar Island, which subsequently turned out to be a ratings flop. Or RTL Boulevard, which continuously reviews all kinds of RTL programs before and after.
Eva’s must
However, talk show hosts often have enough colleagues at the table who have a program to promote. Jan Slagter, whose Omroep MAX participates in the daily NPO 1 talk show Op1, points an accusing finger at the program of Eva Jinek.
Jan tells in the FD: “I find Op1 distinctive and much more journalistic than the rest. The arrival of Sven Kockelmann further strengthens it. Eva Jinek has the mix Frans Bauer next to Mark Rutte. You will see that less with us. And she has more ‘needs’: new RTL programs that need to be promoted.”
Criticism of Jan
RTL News presenter Peter van Zadelhoff thinks this is a very strange statement from Jan. “I’m curious on which figures Jan Slagter bases himself,” he tweeted.
Peter points to the Telegraaf article ‘Op1 appears to be a great success as an NPO advertising column’ from March 2020, in which it was stated that Op1 four times more often Jinek then promotes programs from its own channel group. “Sailing enough, it is precisely RTL that has a reputation for using its talk shows as a promotional channel,” the newspaper said at the time.
Peter’s tweet is liked by, among others, RTL colleagues Koen de Regt and Roland Kooman.
