After BVB’s happy 2-1 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, a heated discussion about the video evidence broke out again. Referee Sascha Stegemann has long since recognized his serious mistake, meanwhile Borussia Dortmund’s culprit Karim Adeyemi has changed his mind about the incident.
The injustice that decided the game, the missed penalty after Adeyemi’s clear shot against Frankfurt’s Jesper Lindström in the 43rd minute, still heats up two days after the thrilling top game between Eintracht and BVB.
While the anger in the SGE camp only wants to subside slowly, referee Stegemann practices self-criticism. The referee admitted in the “double pass” to “Sport1” that his video assistant Robert Kampka from the Cologne basement had not given the due notice: “The check process was stopped too early.”
It was all the more astonishing that the perpetrator Adeyemi initially protested after the final whistle that he had “not seen a foul at all”. “I felt like I was body to body with him. That’s why I thought the referee was right,” explained the 20-year-old, to the incomprehension of many observers.
BVB youngster Adeyemi: “My statement was wrong”
On Monday, Adeyemi commented again on the scene discussed throughout Germany and revised his statements from the weekend.
“To address and clarify the disputed interview. I wasn’t shown the scene after the game and it felt different to me in the game. After seeing the pictures I have to honestly admit that what I said was wrong,” he wrote German national player on Instagram.
Referring to teammate Nico Schlotterbeck, who had recognized a “clear penalty”, Adeyemi added: “Had I seen the pictures during the interview, I would have definitely shared the same opinion as Schlotterbeck.”
For the Frankfurt Eintracht, of course, only small consolation …
