There is room for about 320 cars at the Blauwe Meer. If the parking lot is full, you can park on one side of the driveway. As soon as it is also full, one side of De Vorrelvenen, the road along the lake, will be used for parking.
“We also had such a warm summer a few years ago. Then we couldn’t respond to traffic controllers in time,” Breijs looks back. “The result was that people parked on both sides of De Vorrelvenen.” As a result, farmers, among others, could no longer drive through. “Then we said: ‘no more’.” Breijs expects the parking lot to be completely full today.
He walks all the way around the Blue Lake. “All people are enjoying recreation”, is his conclusion. “Everyone is happy. That’s what it is on such a day. Especially if things haven’t gotten out of hand yet with the crowds. Everyone still has the space now.” Everyone follows the rules. Dogs are on a leash and cyclists walk by hand on the walking path.
For a moment he thinks he has to act. A barbeque. This is also not desirable because of the drought. But it turns out to be someone with a very large cigar, from which a lot of smoke comes out. “Maybe it will be different tonight. We’ll see about that.”
Besides the visitors, Breijs also enjoys himself. “The best thing is that everyone enjoys themselves and is having a good time. As an enforcer, you naturally want you to have to act as little as possible. Sometimes you can’t escape it.”
