The Autumn-Winter 2022 Women’s Fashion Week in Milan presents a program with a total of 169 events. Among other things, 67 physical fashion shows, 69 collection presentations and nine events are planned. Fashion week runs from February 22nd to 28th.
Well-known brands and up-and-coming newcomers
Bottega Veneta, Diesel, Trussardi and Plein Sport are part of the program again this year. Gucci is also returning – the Italian fashion house had in previous years opted for events outside of the typical Fashion Week schedule, such as the star-studded ‘Hollywood Love Parade’, which presented the summer 2022 collection.
A number of new names have also been added to the programme, who will be presenting their collections at Milan Fashion Week for the first time. Newcomers include AC9, Ambush, Andreadamo, Aniye Records, Cormio, Ferrari, Han Kjøbenhavn, Husky, Palm Angels and Tokyo James, among others. Also at fashion week will be Miss Sohee, a Dolce&Gabbana-backed label, Balestra, Andrea Incontri and Edoardo.
Special forms of representation
In addition to the catwalk shows and presentations, there will be some hybrid events that will focus on new designers as well as established brands.
The fashion fair White Milano and the management consultancy System Preferences present the exhibition “Beyond the Norm”, which will be presented in the Mudec Museum after the fashion week alongside art performances. Bulgari and the Italian edition of the fashion magazine Vogue will celebrate the “Bulgari B.Zero1 Aurora Awards” on February 27th, honoring female talent from a wide range of fields.
February 22nd also sees the start of the “Fashion Hub”, an extensive program that organizes events designed to support young, diverse and sustainable designers. The event will take place at the ADI Design Museum and will include a range of different projects. These include, for example, “We Are Made In Italy”, where five BIPOC designers will be exhibited, and “Designers for Ethical Fashion”, a project dealing with ethical and social fashion. The Designers for the Planet project takes a closer look at five eco-conscious brands. It will also host the seventh edition of Budapest Select, a project promoting emerging Hungarian designers.
Young talents and up-and-coming designers
This season, the Italian fashion association Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) “wants to give even more space to the topic of promoting young people,” says a statement. To this end, the CNMI has created a series of initiatives aimed at attracting a new generation of Italian and international designers to facilitate their way into the industry.
The non-profit organization Camera Moda Fashion Trust will launch a competition for independent brands during fashion week. Selected participants will be offered financial support, business advice and mentoring. A photography platform launched by CNMI and Vogue Italia aims to support models, designers and photographers – the works of five artists will be exhibited in the city.
