It is busy on Tuesday evening at the registration center for refugees in Ter Apel. Some people are being accommodated elsewhere for the night, says a spokesperson for the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). The organization will announce on Wednesday morning whether it has succeeded in arranging a place to sleep for everyone.
COA expects to be able to realize this with the help of night shelters in Zuidbroek and Stadskanaal and available places in Ter Apel, a spokesperson said earlier Tuesday evening.
According to the Dagblad van het Noorden, there are still about a hundred people in front of the application center and it is not yet clear whether everyone has a place to sleep for the night. Not everyone would like to go to Stadskanaal, the newspaper writes.
Worked hard
The COA spokesperson says in response that they are working hard to be able to give everyone a place. “This can take all evening. Tomorrow morning we can give a picture of how the efforts have turned out,” said the spokesman.
Last week it was announced that the Eurohal in Zuidbroek in Groningen will be an emergency shelter for up to five hundred people. The location will remain in use for six months, which can be extended by a maximum of six months. For some time now, the Zoutkamp in Groningen has also had a temporary ‘waiting room’ where people can stay for a few days until their asylum application is registered.
Before the opening of Zoutkamp, hundreds of people slept outside at Ter Apel. After that, the situation at the application center seemed to improve.
