Businessman Angel Velasco, owner of Torrons Vicens, He passed away this Saturday in Barcelona at 73 years old after fighting in recent months against a disease that he has not been able to overcome, the company reported in a statement.

Velasco bought in the year 2000 the family business Torrons Vicens, created in 1775 and located in Agramunt (Lleida), where it expanded its range of products until it became the first in Spain for kilos of nougat sold.

Velasco later bought other companies, such as organic nougat which is marketed under the name Ángel and Lluch; that of nougat without sugar Viar, and Xocolata Jolonch.

The company has been characterized in recent years by the production of innovative nougats, some of them created in tandem with the chef and pastry chef Albert Adrià.

Along with his son, the statement indicates, Velasco created in recent years a extensive network of stores throughout the national and international territory, “exporting the creativity and personality of a unique brand to various parts of the world, such as France, the United States or Dubai”.

“He dedicated his whole life to the world of cake shop -indicates the note- profession that he loved and that he learned when he was very young, when he began at the age of 14 to take the first steps in the trade in the Prats-Fatjó pastry shop in Barcelona.
