‘Bus ban’ after nuisance with young people in Kortrijk: those who run amok are no longer allowed on it

“We don’t necessarily want to track down those people, but rather give citizens and travelers a sense of security, who do have good intentions and want to take the bus at their leisure,” says Chief Inspector Jari Amerijckx of PZ Vlas.

Bus ban

At the request of De Lijn, the city of Kortrijk also developed a new type of place ban: a bus ban, so that certain young people can no longer take the buses. Such a ban was already in force once after aggression against a driver.

“That involved, for example, the trip planning that was thrown through the window, the sunglasses that were taken off. There is also a bus driver who has been beaten. Real bullying behavior and more than that actually,” explains mayor Ruth Vandenberghe.

In the meantime, that bus ban for that one young person has already passed. Since the police and De Lijn check more often, nuisance has also decreased.
