A burning vehicle on the Berlin city highway A100 has led to the complete closure of the Britz tunnel.
There was a lot of smoke in both tubes, said a spokesman for the fire department on Wednesday afternoon. But nobody was injured. The burning vehicle was extinguished. According to the police, it was initially not foreseeable how long the closure would last in the middle of the rush hour traffic.
The traffic information center spoke on Twitter of a “traffic chaos” around the tunnel and advised to bypass the area of the A100 extensively. There are severe delays on all bus lines in the tunnel area.
The fire brigade said it was called around 4:40 p.m. Around 80 firefighters are on duty, the spokesman said. According to the traffic information center, the burning vehicle was between Gradestraße and Buschkrugallee.
The blockage was lifted shortly after 6 p.m., but it will probably take a while before the traffic jams have cleared.
