The Bundesliga women 1. FC Cologne experienced a disappointing end to the first half of the season. On Sunday afternoon, coach Britta Carlson’s team lost 1-0 to bottom team Carl Zeiss Jena, which had previously been without a win.

Shortly before the half-time whistle, FC fell behind thanks to a penalty goal from Isabella Jaron. After the break, the Cologne team failed first against the post and then against the crossbar. So there was a surprising setback in the last home game of the year. Of the previous nine Bundesliga games, FC had only lost one – against leaders Bayern Munich.

Must be the 1st FC Cologne worry about your best goalscorer? Said El Mala was substituted after 73 minutes of the 2-0 defeat at Leverkusen. Those responsible are still assuming that there is no risk of a loss for the last home game of the year against Union Berlin.

“It’s nothing serious,” Lukas Kwasniok was able to give the all-clear after the final whistle. “The muscle was cramping a little, that was obvious,” explained the FC coach, who therefore exercised caution: “It’s important not to take any risks and make sure that Said can train and play fully again next week.” Sports director Thomas Kessler also spoke of a “harmless” affair.

Lukas Kwasniok wants more moderate ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup. On the Friday before 1. FC Köln’s game at Bayer Leverkusen, the FC coach was asked about the high costs for fans at the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada. “Expensive. Very expensive. I’ve never been able to afford a ticket for a World Cup,” said the 44-year-old. “I could do it now, but I probably won’t get one. One day I want to watch a game. I doubt whether that will be the case at the next World Cup.”

Ticket prices start at 155 euros per game and ticket, sometimes not less than 230 euros per game. The costs for a possible final on July 19, 2026 are between 3,580 and 7,430 euros in the DFB contingent. “Obviously there are people who are willing to pay these huge sums. Otherwise they wouldn’t be called,” said Kwasniok. “Still, I would say: very expensive. Some people will try to combine it with a vacation in the States. Then it will be even more expensive. But of course it’s a great experience.”
