Bundesliga: VfL Wolfsburg lends Bartol Franjic to Darmstadt 98

Cost 7.5 million euros in 2022

Bartol Franjic is leaving VfL Wolfsburg temporarily and moving to SV Darmstadt 98 on loan within the Bundesliga. The 23-year-old Croatian will join the “Lilies” for one season, and a purchase option is reportedly not part of the deal.

Franjic came to Lower Saxony from Dinamo Zagreb for 7.5 million euros in the summer of 2022, but was only able to set a few accents in his first year. After four games at the start of the season, the midfielder injured his calf and only made one short appearance. In the second half of the season he played no role and was not even part of the squad at times.

In Darmstadt, the left foot, who is still tied to VfL until 2027, should now gather match practice. “Bartol is a team player who works hard for his team and whose style of play is characterized by high intensity. He is already very mature for his 23 years and it is not for nothing that he captained the Croatian U21 team at the European Championships in the summer. I’m sure that Bartol will help us to achieve our goals,” said Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht. Franjic himself added: “The people in charge tried very hard for me and immediately made me feel good about it. Now I want to take the next step in my development in Darmstadt and help the team to stay up in the league.”
