Munich (AP) – Record national player Lothar Matthäus sees a small compensation for FC Bayern in the tenth championship in a row after the end of the Champions League and the DFB Cup.
The fact that the title in the top game on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) against Borussia Dortmund can be made perfect is something “special”, said the Sky expert in an interview with the German Press Agency. “To have a game like that at home and to compensate the fans a bit for what they experienced this season, especially in the cup competitions, in the event of a possible win and thus a certain title win,” said Matthäus.
Matthäus gives the Bayern season in the Bundesliga a grade of two. “You saw attractive football in the first half of the season, but now in the second half things got a little rough,” said the 61-year-old. In the cup competitions, on the other hand, it was “a straight five for me. It depends on how you are eliminated and against whom. And that against Gladbach and against whom in the Champions League was not Bayern-like.”
Bayern were eliminated in the second round of the DFB Cup with a 5-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the Champions League, the record champions failed in the quarter-finals at Villarreal FC.
