Bundesliga on course for five places in the Champions League

Five-year rating

After a decent week in the European Cup, the Bundesliga can still hope for a fifth starting place in the 2024/25 Champions League season. In the season ranking, which determines the starting positions, Italy still occupies first place with 16,571 points, followed by Germany in second place (15,500 points). The two best nations will receive an additional starting place for the coming season, in which 36 instead of 32 teams will compete in the premier class for the first time. England, France and Spain follow in the rankings.

FC Bayern’s progress in the Champions League was an important step for the Bundesliga, as was SC Freiburg’s home win against Premier League representatives West Ham United in the Europa League. RB Leipzig is no longer represented in European competition after the 1-1 draw at Real Madrid. The coming week with round of 16 second legs in all three competitions should be groundbreaking. In the premier class, Borussia Dortmund are required for Germany and Arsenal FC for England. Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Conference League also have realistic chances of reaching the next round. In the coming season, not only the number of participants in the Champions League will change, but also the mode. There will no longer be any fixed preliminary round groups in the future.
