The interpreters of gestures and statements in Munich claim to have observed a dissatisfied Lewandowski in the past few weeks. Lewandowski is said to have been annoyed by the unrealistic mind games of the Bayern bosses about the possible young successor Erling Haaland (21), who is moving from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City.
Bayern is dependent on Lewandowski
Of course, no one can look inside Lewandowski’s head. Only his wife and advisors should really know what he thinks and what he wants. Bayern’s Super Nine can put on a poker face – and he does his job reliably on the pitch, no matter what jersey he’s wearing. “If you show your performance on the pitch, it doesn’t matter that much whether you play in team A, B or C. Whenever I’m on the pitch, I want to show my best,” said Lewandowski after his second choice for the world footballer this year.
Contract poker and change ambitions are nothing new for him – and he can deal with them. “I’m such an experienced player, I can block things out and focus on my job,” he said.
The Bayern bosses around Oliver Kahn believe they can manage the Lewandowski cause in their interest. They can hardly let him go. Even at the age of 34, Lewandowski guarantees many goals. Could a Schick in Munich replace him without a start-up time?
Another fact is that Borussia Dortmund won the last two championship titles before the Munich reign, which has lasted since 2013, in 2011 and 2012, when Lewandowski celebrated his goals while still in the BVB jersey.
Teammates hope to stay
Salihamidzic describes the Polish “full professional” very well: “He wants to have perfect training every day. He wants crosses, wants to score goals. If he doesn’t score a goal in the game, he sits in the dressing room and is pissed off. But that’s what makes him special , that’s what makes him so good.”
The teammates trust the club’s word of power. “Lewy knows what he has in the club and what he has in us. The club has made it clear that he will definitely play for us next year. We’re all happy about that,” said Leon Goretzka.
If Lewandowski stays in Munich, he could continue to attack Gerd Müller records. “All the records that Gerd Müller has set drive me to get better,” he said over the course of this season. With an eighth top scorer in the coming season, he would surpass the “Bomber” with whom he will draw level in Wolfsburg. Müller’s season record of 40 goals was surpassed by Lewandowski last year with 41 stalls. Even the all-time league record of 365 goals is within reach for Lewandowski (311) – if he stays with Bayern.
