Dutchman Henk Groener will be the new head coach of Borussia Dortmund’s women’s handball team on November 1st. BVB announced this on Friday (October 7th, 2022).
The 62-year-old former women’s national coach succeeds former coach André Fuhr, who BVB parted with on September 19.
Terminations without notice at BVB caused a stir
Fuhr was relieved of his duties after the dismissals of national players Mia Zschocke and Amelie Berger, who had turned on the contact point for violence and abuse in sport.
Co-trainers Kuno and Schlechter handed over to Groener
Groener worked as national coach from 2018 to March of this year, before that he was in charge of the Dutch women’s national team for a long time.
Until Groener officially takes office, assistant coaches Andreas Kuno and Dominik Schlechter will continue to be responsible. Under the duo, the team is in second place behind Thüringer HC after four matchdays with 8:0 points.
