HSV game against Leverkusen canceled

HSV was scheduled to meet Bayer Leverkusen in Hamburg on Tuesday evening. But the game cannot take place.
The Bundesliga game between Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen was canceled a few hours before kick-off. The German Football League (DFL) announced this on Tuesday evening. The game on matchday 17 should have started at 8:30 p.m.
The reason for the cancellation is “weather-related static risks in the area of the stadium roof,” as it is said. “The Volksparkstadion as a venue was closed for a short time.” The league wants to decide on a new schedule as quickly as possible.
HSV provided a more detailed explanation for the cancellation. The extreme thaw is to blame. “Condensation water collected under the snow on the roof membrane in some places in the stadium and could not drain away, leading to large point loads,” the club said. “A structural engineer called in to assess the situation assessed the situation as a security risk, whereupon the game had to be canceled in coordination with the DFL and the local security authorities.”
The game is not the first game to fall victim to the weather this year. The duels between St. Pauli and Leipzig and Werder Bremen against TSG Hoffenheim were canceled last weekend. The games have both already been rescheduled and will now take place on January 27th.
Both Hamburg and Leverkusen started the new year with defeats. HSV lost 1:2 at SC Freiburg. Leverkusen lost 4-1 to VfB Stuttgart. The chance for redemption will have to wait for both teams.
