The FC Bayern women have a new head coach. 46-year-old Alexander Straus comes from Norwegian champions Sandviken TF / SK Brann and will start preparing for the new season on July 18th.
After one season Without a title in the league and cup and the end of the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Bayern Munich parted ways with coach Jens Schauer. Now the Norwegian Alexander Straus should drive the success story of the Bayern women forward again.
“With an international perspective and experience from a wide range of areas, we will be able to continue to grow with him,” explains Bianca Rech, sporting director, in the club’s announcement.
Before the start, Straus presented himself as self-confident and determined: “As part of a big club like FC Bayern, it must always be our goal to win every competition we take part in.” He sees the conditions for a good season in place. “We have a team with very, very good players and I have the greatest respect for the work that previous coach Jens Scheuer and his staff did here.”
Straus has experience in both men’s and women’s divisions
Straus had led his ex-club to the historic first championship in the club’s history in 2021. In addition, the 46-year-old was head coach of the Norwegian U23 and U19 women’s national team for several years, as well as assistant coach of the male first division club, then runners-up and Europa League participant Strømsgodset TF and head coach of the men’s second division club Nest-Sotra IL.
