Bundesliga: FC Bayern scores well against FCA, RB Leipzig easily

Cancelo’s debut goal

FC Bayern celebrated a goal-rich win against FC Augsburg after a false start. Three days after reaching the quarter-finals in the Champions League, Munich celebrated an entertaining 5: 3 (4: 1) in the Bundesliga after an early 0: 1 deficit. After a generous rotation, newly promoted João Cancelo (15′), Benjamin Pavard (19’/35′) and Leroy Sané (45′) were in a goal mood, as was Alphonso Davies (74′).

Before these goals, the Munich team had to digest the goal after just 120 seconds with a contrite expression from Bayern fright Mergim Berisha. The U21 European champions, who campaigned for themselves just under a week before the national team were nominated by national coach Hansi Flick, also reduced the deficit to 2: 4 (60th penalty kick) in front of 75,000 spectators. The winning goal scorer from 1-0 in the first leg scored in all four compulsory games with Salzburg and Augsburg against Munich. But that didn’t change anything at the consolidated top of the table for the series champions, nor did Irvin Cardona’s 3: 5 (90 + 3).

Unlike the two successes in the two round of 16 games without conceding a goal against Paris Saint-Germain, the zero against Augsburg did not last. FCA rewarded themselves for a brave approach with an early lead. The tactic was at the expense of the defensive in the fifth away bankruptcy this year.

Max Eberl had the better end of his explosive reunion with ex-club Borussia Mönchengladbach. The head of sports at RB Leipzig saw his team go 3-0 (0-0), but in the end they won a little too clearly. National players Timo Werner (58th), Emil Forsberg (71st/foulelfmeter) and Josko Gvardiol (80th) ensured the decision in favor of the favorite in front of 46,687 fans. However, Gladbach not only had the better chances, but also missed a penalty through Alassane Plea (53rd). To make matters worse, the Frenchman later caused the Leipzig penalty.

First a new investor deal, but then only one point: Hertha BSC missed the third home win in a row and is still deep in the relegation battle. With the 1:1 (1:0) the Berliners ended the winning streak of FSV Mainz 05, who recently won four times in the Bundesliga. But the draw didn’t make Hertha happy.

Ludovic Ajorque (57th) scored the equalizer for Mainz, who had been disappointing for a long time. Jessic Ngankam gave Berlin the lead in the 18th minute with a hand penalty in front of 41,689 spectators in the Olympic Stadium. A few hours before the game, Hertha announced the cooperation with the new investor “777 Partners”. The Americans replace the controversial entrepreneur Lars Windhorst as financier. According to media reports, new millions will soon be transferred.

Eintracht Frankfurt dropped points again in the race for a place in the Champions League. The Europa League winners only drew 1-1 (0-0) against VfB Stuttgart and remains sixth in the Bundesliga table with 40 points. In front of 50,000 spectators, Sebastian Rode put the Hessians in the lead in the 55th minute in the mixed dress rehearsal for the round of 16 second leg in the “premier class” at SSC Naples. Silas (75th) managed to equalize for the Stuttgart team, who, despite the partial success with 20 points, are still in the middle of the relegation battle.
