Kane keeps scoring

FC Bayern Munich saved themselves from the top duel with Bayer Leverkusen thanks to Harry Kane’s 24th Bundesliga goal to an extremely difficult home win. However, the 3-1 (1-1) win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, which was initiated by a major mistake by guest keeper Moritz Nicolas, was not enough to make a masterful announcement.

After Gladbach’s Nico Elvedi made it 0-1 (35th minute), Bayern youngster Aleksander Pavlovic once again underlined his qualities with the equalizer, which was once again rewarded with a place in the starting eleven (45th). Kane then let Munich celebrate making it 2-1 after goalkeeper Nicolas’ mistake following a cross from Leon Goretzka (70′). Shortly before the end, defender Matthijs de Ligt raised the score with his head (86′). “Super Bayern, super Bayern,” chanted the Munich fans despite the less than stellar performance. Winter signing Sacha Boey, who came from Galatasaray Istanbul for 30 million euros, made his debut in the second half.

Thanks to Tella’s double pack: Bayer continues the series and wins in Darmstadt

Bayer Leverkusen has shown no weakness before the upcoming Bundesliga summit against Bayern. The Werkself won 2-0 (1-0) at bottom team SV Darmstadt 98 and remains undefeated at the top of the table. Summer signing Nathan Tella became the match winner with a brace in the 33rd and 52nd minutes in front of 17,810 spectators in the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. Leverkusen is still two points ahead of Bayern. Things are becoming more and more critical for Darmstadt at the bottom of the table.

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso ordered new signing Borja Iglesias into the first eleven after good training performances. He also brought in Granit Xhaka, although the Swiss was threatened with a ban for the Bayern game if he received another yellow card. “He is a very important player for us with a lot of experience,” the Spaniard explained his decision to “Sky” before kick-off, which paid off. As always, Xhaka was a leader and a thinker, but held back in the duels and went without a warning.

Mainz’ fear of relegation grows after a 0-1 defeat against Bremen

The relegation-threatened FSV Mainz 05 has nothing left to laugh about before the climax of the crazy hustle and bustle in the carnival stronghold. The Rheinhessen lost the home game against Werder Bremen with 0:1 (0:1). With the ninth league game without a win, the hopes of the second-to-last in the table of staying in the league are dwindling more and more.

The match winner in front of 31,800 spectators was Werder’s top scorer Marvin Ducksch, who scored the winning goal after just under two minutes. With his ninth goal of the season he secured his third success in a row.

VfB dream start and red for Röhl: Stuttgart wins in Freiburg

Two quick goals and an early dismissal paved the way for VfB Stuttgart to victory in the national duel at SC Freiburg. The Swabians deservedly won 3:1 (2:1) against Baden. With their second competitive win this year, Stuttgart underlined their status as the current number one in Baden-Württemberg and further consolidated their Champions League place in the Bundesliga.

Once again in top form, striker Deniz Undav (3rd minute), national player Chris Führich (7th) and full-back Maximilian Mittelstädt (74th) scored for VfB in front of 34,700 spectators. For Freiburg, where offensive man Merlin Röhl was shown a red card for a foul in the 18th minute, defender Lukas Kübler scored the next goal (45th + 11th). In the final phase, SC captain Christian Günter celebrated his comeback after a long injury break.

Late penalty saves FC Augsburg a point in Bochum

FC Augsburg saved a draw at VfL Bochum with a late goal from their top striker Ermedin Demirovic. In stoppage time, Demirovic converted a hand penalty to make the final score 1-1 (0-1) and scored his eleventh goal of the season. Augsburg and Bochum remain in the middle of the Bundesliga table and maintained their distance from the relegation zone.

For a long time it looked like another home win for Bochum, who had only suffered one defeat in ten games in their own stadium this season. Moritz Broschinski initially scored with an overhead kick (33rd minute), but the first goal of the season wasn’t enough in the end. In stoppage time, the ball hit the arm of Augsburg’s VfL defense chief Ivan Ordets during an attack. As exciting and thrilling as the final phase was, the game beforehand was unexciting and had few chances.
