Wins for Wolfsburg & Bochum
Relegation candidate Hertha BSC remains without a win after the next significant home defeat in the Bundesliga this year. After the 1:4 (0:1) against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon, coach Tayfun Korkut’s team remains on the relegation rank after the 25th matchday and is now two points behind 15th place. New signing Ansgar Knauff (17th minute) scored ahead 25,000 spectators in the Berlin Olympic Stadium scored the opening goal for the Hessians. Tuta (48′) and Jesper Lindström (56′) and Rafael Borré (63′) scored the other Frankfurt goals. Davie Selke only made it 1:3 for a short time (61st).
In the game against the ex-club of managing director Fredi Bobic, the Berliners seemed overwhelmed offensively and defensively for long stretches and have now lost four games in a row. The Frankfurters and coach Oliver Glasner, on the other hand, can hope for the turnaround promised before the game and ended their negative series of three defeats in a row. Eintracht remains tenth and plays against Betis Sevilla in the Europa League on Wednesday (6.45 p.m.).

FC Bayern dropped points against Bayer Leverkusen
This is not how Thomas Müller had imagined his comeback after the second corona infection: The national player’s first own goal in the 407th Bundesliga game cost FC Bayern Munich a home win in the 1-1 (1-1) game against Bayer Leverkusen and thus also one successful dress rehearsal before the round of 16 second leg in the Champions League against RB Salzburg.
With an unsuccessful defensive action in his own penalty area, Müller steered a Leverkusen free kick from Kerem Demirbay into his own goal in the 36th minute on Saturday. Before that, national defender Niklas Süle put the league leaders ahead with his first goal of the season in front of 25,000 spectators in the sold-out Allianz Arena (18th).
Marcel Sabitzer missed the best chance of winning Bayern. Shortly after his substitution, the Austrian – freed by Jamal Musiala – appeared alone in front of the Leverkusen goal, but was denied by goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky (62nd). Despite the two points lost, Munich remain on the master class – and Bayer on the king class course.
VfL Wolfsburg beats Union Berlin – focus on Kruse
Max Kruse was able to celebrate when he met his ex-club Union Berlin. Five weeks after moving to VfL Wolfsburg, Kruse won 1-0 (1-0) with Lower Saxony against Union. In front of 15,703 spectators, however, it was not the striker who had been substituted in the final phase but Berlin’s Taiwo Awoniyi who scored his own goal (25th minute).
Ex-Berliner Kruse didn’t have the clearest chances to score, but he worked tirelessly and won important duels. The Berlin fans did not hide their displeasure at the change of the former top scorer: Kruse was whistled at when the name was read, but then they became more merciful in the game. For the Wolfsburg it was the third victory this year.

VfL Bochum beat bottom SpVgg Greuther Fürth
VfL Bochum won the promotion duel against SpVgg Greuther Fürth and took another big step towards remaining in the league. Three days after the bitter end in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup against SC Freiburg, coach Thomas Reis’ team deservedly defeated the bottom team 2-1 (1-0). In front of 19,800 spectators in the Ruhr Stadium, Maxim Leitsch scored the goals in the 35th minute and captain Anthony Losilla (71st) for VfL, who now have 32 points.
At Fürth, on the other hand, the hope of another Bundesliga year is becoming less and less. With only 14 points, the Franconians are at the bottom. Significantly, Fürth’s only goal was an own goal by Bochum defender Armel Bella Kotchap (64′).
RB Leipzig equalized shortly before the end against SC Freiburg
Only a violent shot by Angeliño in the 90th minute prevented SC Freiburg from winning again. In the direct duel for the Champions League places at RB Leipzig, coach Christian Streich’s team just missed out on success with the 1-1 (1-0). This means that the Saxons remain level on points with 41 points in front of the Breisgauers in fourth place. In front of a crowd of 24,758, Ermedin Demirovic gave Freiburg the lead in the 38th minute before Angeliño equalized.
RB coach Domenico Tedesco made five changes to his starting eleven compared to the successful DFB Cup quarter-finals in Hanover and initially did without Dani Olmo and André Silva on offense. After a joint pause at the center circle, where the teams hugged each other and sent a signal for peace in Ukraine, RB started with a lot of possession football. The Freiburg were well staggered and initially allowed little. The guests even gave the first sign of respect: Nico Schlotterbeck (11th) tested RB keeper Peter Gulasci with a powerful shot – the Hungarian only held the ball in the follow-up.
END! VICTORY!
VERY IMPORTANT!
