The Bundesliga duel between 1. FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Union Berlin cannot take place on Friday due to the wintry weather conditions. The DFL announced this on Thursday after the stadium operator of the Mainz Arena closed the venue. The reason given was heavy ice formation on the lower tiers, especially in the standing area, as well as on the journey routes, and the associated safety risks for spectators.
