Munich (dpa) – The result and the unchanged positive view of the Bundesliga table were for Julian Nagelsmann after a very difficult week of Munich football above all else.
In the 4:1 (0:1) against bottom of the table Greuther Fürth, longer passages were not ready for the title. But after the previous 2: 4 in Bochum, FC Bayern is on course for the tenth championship in a row.
“The win is very important, sometimes more important than the manner. The three points are important for us, so we’re happy about that,” said Bayern coach Nagelsmann, looking at the six-point gap to Borussia Dortmund. At the time of his statement on Sunday evening, BVB was already on course to win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The lead of six points over the only remaining pursuer remained intact after it threatened to shrink to three in the meantime in front of 25,000 spectators.
Performance blackout before the break
There was great relief for the national permanent champion after the turn against Fürth, which, according to Nagelsmann, was forced “with a lot of power”. “Now we’ve stopped the small dent and are back on the winning track,” said captain Thomas Müller. This applies to the dip in earnings, but the dip in performance does not have to be over yet.
Goals 27 and 28 of the season from Robert Lewandowski, an own goal from Fürth’s defender Sebastian Griesbeck and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting’s 4-1 final point in added time corrected a frightening performance blackout before the break. The bottom of the table even led through a free-kick from captain Branimir Hrgota.
Match winner Lewandowski
“I’m always proud when I’m there with my goals,” said match winner Lewandowski. The goalscorer pulled his team out of the lethargy with signs on the pitch and “louder words” after a first half, “which was bad, you have to say that clearly. I wanted to wake up the team,” reported the Pole.
It worked. But leading player Lewandowski called for intensive weeks of work after the home win, which was forced with a lot of energy but little sovereignty and game control. “Now we have two normal weeks where we can work really well on the things that aren’t working out that way and where we can build up our form.” It has to be absolutely top in the big games.
