Bundesliga, Bayern defeated Mainz 3-1 by crisis and first place in danger

Uncertain championship five days from the end: Borussia Dortmund, by winning the postponement with Eintracht, would become leaders

The Bundesliga is open. As it has never been in the last decade. And Bayern Munich is in crisis, as it hasn’t happened for well over 10 years. Five days to go the Bavarians lose at Mainz 3-1 and once again put the top of the standings in danger: Borussia Dortmund, by winning the postponement with Eintracht, would in fact be leaders. And so, after the elimination in the German Cup and in the Champions League, Tuchel also seriously jeopardizes the championship title.

The race

Bayern are deployed with a 3-4-1-2 formation, with Mané returning to the starting lineup after the suspension, and Tuchel keeping out Gnabry, Sané and Coman. In reality, the Bavarians also start strong: Davies (who will go out with a muscle problem) tries after a few seconds, in the 16th minute Mané, served deep by Musiala, scores, but the action is canceled by the Var. In the 29th minute he strikes again Mané, with the first goal of his 2023: on a cross from Cancelo from the left, the ex Liverpool headed in and made it 1-0. The domination seems absolute, to the point that in the 32nd minute Musiala also has the ball to make it 2-0 (header that comes off just a little). The first 45 minutes, however, were just smoke and mirrors.

The recovery

In fact, in the second half Bayern disappeared from the field: in the 51st minute Ajorque fired high from an excellent position, in the 65th minute the equalizer arrived: Lee kicked, Sommer rejected, but Ajorque anticipated everyone and reiterated the ball on goal. The Bavarians didn’t react and Mainz took on more and more courage: on a long ball from Zentner it was Ajorque who extended his header, serving Onisiwo who prevailed over Stanisic and served for Barreiro who made it 2-1 in the 73rd minute. Even the trio arrives in the 79th minute: Hanche-Olsen is good at serving Aaron Marint who beats Sommer again with power kicks. Bayern only met again with Tel in the 92nd minute (well done Zentner at rebounding), but even in the event of a goal it would have been too late. And this is precisely what worries Tuchel: the team is not only in crisis, it also appears emotionally flat.

The others

Wolfsburg spreads and wins 5-1 at Bochum. Very heavy defeat for Hertha who is overwhelmed in their own stadium by Werder (4-2): the Berlin team remains last and in the next round they will have to contend with Bayern. Away victory also for Cologne, who won 3-1 on the Hoffenheim field.
