Status: 07.08.2022 5:33 p.m

Thanks to an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Florian Müller, VfB Stuttgart drew against RB Leipzig at the start of the Bundesliga. The game on Sunday afternoon (07.08.22) ended 1:1.

Christopher Nkunku quickly gave the guests from Saxony the lead (8′), Naouirou Ahamada equalized for the home side before the break (31′).

Leipzig starts furiously

The Saxons converted their first shot on goal in the early stages to take the lead: Nkunku’s shot from Benjamin Henrich and Dani Olmo was icy. But except for a header by Klostermann (14th). there were no further clear conclusions for the time being. The Swabians became a little more self-confident as a result and were able to equalize against guests who had been passive in the meantime with a nice attack: After a one-two with Sasa Kalajdžić, Ahamada hit the bottom right of the net with a concealed precision shot from medium range.

VfB does not use opportunities to lead

Shortly before and after the break, when both coaches decided not to change, Stuttgart missed the lead several times: First, Konstantino Mavropanos fired a long-range shot at the left post (45′), after the break Vagnoman missed the right cross corner from about nine meters half-right position just barely.

Müller parried three times with top reflexes

After about an hour of play, the balance of power turned again – in the direction of Leipzig. Domenico Tedesco brought on Dominik Szoboszlai for Kevin Kampl and brought a lot of offensive momentum into his team. And Florian Müller in the Swabian box suddenly had all his goalkeeper gloves full: First the keeper saved very well against Hugo Novoa (63′), then twice against Nkunku (67’/69′).

The 24-year-old goalkeeper showed further proof of his class against Willi Orban: Müller fished his acceptance of a space flank from the left side five meters away from the goal from the bottom right corner. Szoboszlai missed the visitors’ last big chance when he shot a flutter ball just past the home side’s goal (90′). The Swabians were fortunate to win a point against a superior but weak Leipzig team.

Stuttgart travels to Bremen on the 2nd matchday on Saturday (13.08.2022), Leipzig then plays against Cologne.
