Noordbarge and the fear of traffic suffering: it is a theme that plays a major role in the Emmer district. A new construction plan on the site of a former school, traffic nuisance at Waldorf school De Stroeten and the redevelopment of the Ermerweg. Three cases that cause concern or annoyance among residents. Local Interest chairman Onno te Nuyl will address the city council tonight about the Terra plan.
A group of residents has also knocked on the door of a court to enforce a parking ban at the free school.
Last May, the bell was raised after the presentation of the housing plan on Noordbargerstraat. Developers Peter van Dijk and Bemog want to build twelve detached houses on the former Terra College site. A plan that can count on the approval of the neighbourhood, but the access via the Scheperstraat is regarded as less fortunate.
As a result, more traffic comes through the village, which leads to more crowds and possibly greater insecurity, it is feared. The former access road to the school is seen as a more suitable candidate by Local Interest Noordbarge. The traffic plan would have to be overhauled for this.
According to Te Nuyl, three opinions have been submitted because of the chosen access. According to him, no traffic and safety investigation has been carried out at all. “Not to the burden on the Scheperstraat, which must be widened. Not to the safety or burden on the environment. Referring to an investigation that has never taken place is a strange way of working.”
A meeting followed with aldermen René van der Weide and Jisse Otter. According to Te Nuyl, Otter would have said that Local Interest discriminated against future residents ‘because we denied them a nice access to their new neighbourhood’. Te Nuyl considers this the ultimate penalty to silence them.
“At those kinds of moments and with statements like this, an alderman kills every form of consultation,” says Te Nuyl. The preference of Local Interest goes to the aforementioned access road, where a passage for bicycle traffic has been devised anyway. In this way, the new residents will reach the Ermerweg more quickly, the district out, says the district chairman.
