Bull’s eye for Breda and Den Bosch: Vuelta attracted a million visitors

The four days that the Vuelta a España visited the Netherlands yielded an estimated almost million visitors. La Vuelta Holanda, the local organization of the start of the Spanish cycling round in the Netherlands, has calculated this.

About 12,500 spectators attended the team presentation in Utrecht on Thursday. The first stage in Utrecht attracted about 260,000 cycling fans. The two rides after that, from Den Bosch to Utrecht and Breda-Breda, were estimated to be visited by 375,000 and 350,000 spectators respectively.

Above expectations
Together that is good for almost a million visitors, according to the organization, which calls that number ‘beyond expectations’.

“The warm reception from the Dutch public has impressed us. We have felt very much at home,” said Javier Guillén, general manager of the Vuelta.

‘The Netherlands breathes cycling’
“After two years of waiting, the La Vuelta Holanda project has finally gone ahead and has exceeded our expectations. The Netherlands is a country that breathes cycling. As a Vuelta, we experienced one of the best moments ever,” said Guillén.

The start in Utrecht would actually be in 2020, but was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

The Vuelta continues on Tuesday in Vitoria, Basque, and ends on September 11 in Madrid.
