Bulgarian trio arrested in Helmond for stealing catalytic converters

Three Bulgarians got stuck in Helmond on Friday morning after a short chase because they are suspected of stealing catalytic converters from cars. There are several thefts across the country.

The three men (aged 31, 25 and 22) worked in different configurations and moved around the country to avoid being caught by the police. In January, several suspects were caught red-handed in Arnhem and detained.

After their release, the investigation continues and one of those suspects in Eindhoven comes into the picture with a catalyst theft. The next day, this suspect is arrested in Helmond along with two others.

Catalyst in the bushes
The police launched an investigation in January into a group that mainly stole catalytic converters from Toyota Prius vehicles. If they stole the catalytic converter, they put it in the bushes to pick it up later.

At a metalworking company, a catalyst yields between 200 and 300 euros. The three Bulgarians are in custody, the police do not rule out more arrests.
