The Bulgarian national team was involved in a serious traffic accident on the way to the Nations League game in Georgia.
Midfielder Todor Nedelev suffered a traumatic brain injury, as a result of which the 29-year-old had to be operated on. As the Bulgarian association announced, the operation was successful.
Nedelev, who played at FSV Mainz 05 from 2014 to 2016, will continue to be treated in the hospital. You will be informed about his condition in a timely manner. Everyone else involved in the accident is fine.
The Bulgarians’ accident happened on Friday after their arrival in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, where they will play their fourth group game on Sunday (6 p.m.).
On the way to the team hotel, the driver of the first of the two buses lost control of the vehicle, which led to the serious accident. After the collision, Nedelev was transported to a local hospital.
Bulgaria have drawn twice so far and lost the first leg at home against leaders Georgia with no points lost 5-2.
